The Tallahassee Fire Department is responding to two fires, one fatal, less than 30 minutes apart

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A house fire turned deadly in Tallahassee Sunday morning, less than half an hour after crews put out a second blaze.

According to the Tallahassee Fire Department, firefighters responded to a reported “heavy fire” at a home on Yancey Street just before 8:30 a.m. A man was found dead inside during a search.

Smoke could still be seen billowing from the house into the afternoon hours after the initial fire. The homeowner told WCTV that there was an explosion inside the home. A WCTV crew reported that pieces of the house were scattered on Yancey Street.

Neighbors on several streets said they felt the ground rattle during the incident. A neighbor said he thought the foundation under his house was collapsing.

Earlier in the morning, TFD also responded to a mobile home on Rachel Cooper Lane just before 8am. Officials said smoke and fire could be seen from the roof when crews arrived at the scene. No one was in the house.

This is a developing story.
