Warangal: Poor success rate in prevention or resolution theft and burglary cases by Warangal police commissariat has become a matter of concern for the people as well as for the police. Data shows that the Warangal police have failed to solve 50% of such crimes in recent years.

Last year, 911 thefts took place under Warangal police station, but only 486 cases were solved. In total, out of the total of 10.86 million lei stolen, only 4 million lei were recovered. This year, thefts have already crossed the 900 mark, but the recovery percentage has not even crossed 50. In 2022, there have been a total of more than 756 thefts and 416 cases have been solved. There were a total of over 6.19 million property losses, but only 3.01 million lei were recovered.

Although there are more than enough police personnel in the Police Station, most cases of theft and burglary are not solved. Even though the police conducted nakabandis, patrolled at night and checked vehicles, there was no big drop in theft cases.

“Police always have a tough task at hand to detect cases of theft. It is after a long investigation, information from informants, control of criminals in evidence property crimes and various other methods of investigation by which the police nab the culprits,” said a police officer.

Police claim that as the recent thefts in Warangal city and nearby areas, it seems professional gangs are operating in Warangal. The police claimed that professional gangs from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya PradeshRajasthan, Tamil Nadu and other areas often commit theft within Warangal Police Station limits. Due to the operation of interstate gangs in the city and surrounding areas, it becomes a challenge for the police to identify the criminals.

The theft of gold worth over Rs 13 crore from SBI Bank Rayaparthy branch has created a stir across the state. The police have formed special teams to identify the accused, but so far no trace has been found.

While the frequent thefts in the Warangal Police Station are causing furore, there is criticism that the police officers are failing to stop them. People want the police to focus on theft and identify criminals and increase focus on recovering stolen money and gold.
