A man jumps off a roller coaster in Phoenix; claims shift bar is unlocked

PHOENIX (AZ Family) — A Valley man said he experienced a terrible experience on a ride at Castles N’ Coasters on Sunday.

The man, who did not want to give his name or show his face, claims the safety bar was unlocked just before the big fall on Desert Storm, a two-loop roller coaster.

“It was just adrenaline and I didn’t want to die that day,” he told the Arizona family. “As soon as the lap bar went up, I just didn’t think about it, I just jumped out.”

Video of the reported incident shows the man standing on the chair and jumping onto the emergency stairs just seconds before the coaster tumbled and flipped over. He thinks he might have died if it wasn’t for his quick thinking.

“It could have been someone younger or older, not as nimble, right? Luckily it was me and I was able to think quickly and get out, but it could have ended differently,” he said.

The Arizona family reached out to Castles N’ Coasters multiple times but had not heard back as of Monday evening.
