Third accused arrested in Bangladesh trafficking case

Stepping up its investigation into the well-organised human trafficking and sex racket that has links to Bangladesh, the commissionerate police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a pimp of the illicit trade from Jharpada area in Bhubaneswar.

The accused, identified as Abdul Sayadul Suleman, was arrested by the Madhupatna police. He was arrested in the alleged sex-trafficking case involving a minor girl from neighboring Bangladesh.

So far, the Police Station arrested three accused in connection with the incident.

Earlier on Monday, a couple, Om Prakash Choudhry and Jasmin Choudhry were arrested from Cuttack in this connection.

The couple was arrested after rescuing the minor who was allegedly forced to trade flesh in a massage parlor by them.

Cuttack DCP Jagmohan Meena on Tuesday informed that the accused Abdul was working as a pimp and employed the minor in the prostitution racket. One person has also been detained and is being questioned, he said.

The victim is currently housed in a short stay at home in Cuttack in police custody. Efforts are being made to establish contact with her family in Bangladesh to complete the necessary formalities to hand over her custody.

The police are trying to establish the involvement of the others involved in the racket based on the victim’s statements. He is also shown pictures to identify the culprits, sources said.

Earlier, the state director general of police (DGP) said a detailed investigation is underway to ascertain how the Bangladeshi women crossed the border and entered India.
