How to Get a PAN Card for Your Child: Step-by-Step Guide and Benefits

A PAN (Permanent Account Number) card is an essential document for many financial and legal activities in India. From filing income tax returns to opening a bank account or starting investments, a PAN card is often indispensable. However, contrary to popular belief, PAN cards are not limited to people above 18 years of age. According to Section 160 of the Income Tax (IT) Act, even minors can hold a PAN card, called Minor PAN Card. This card, although issued in the name of the minor, can only be used by the parents or their guardians until the child reaches adulthood.

Applying for a minor PAN card is a simple process that ensures your child is financially prepared for various opportunities. Be it for investment or banking needs, securing a PAN card for your minor paves the way for smoother financial transactions on their behalf.

Key details about minor PAN cards

The IT department allows minors to get a PAN card without specific restrictions. However, certain updates, such as adding a signature and photo, become mandatory when the child turns 18.
