Seaholm shows determination despite falling to Bloomfield Hills in Spenser Adams’ head coaching debut – The Oakland Press

BLOOMFIELD HILLS — The faces changed dramatically, but the outcome of Tuesday night’s season opener between Birmingham Seaholm and Bloomfield Hills was nearly identical to last year’s district meet.

The Black Hawks, who won that postseason matchup 43-39, fought off a fourth-quarter comeback from the Maples to open the year with a 42-38 win.

It ended that way, even though Seaholm trailed by a dozen to start the fourth quarter. Making his head coaching debut, Spenser Adams, the Maples’ defensive coordinator for the football team, watched his team fight back and nearly gave them a win despite a turnover-laden start to the game.

“We don’t return a ton of varsity experience, so we knew there was going to be some hustle early,” Adams said. “We got down a little early and had to scratch and scratch and fight our way back into it, but I think once our kids started focusing on the competition rather than the first-time anxiety -a university game, I thought. we played well and made it a game.”
