The alleged robber was attacked at the scene of the accident; paramedic injured in the chaos

A man was attacked and a Mogale Response Services (MRS) paramedic was injured in a two-vehicle crash on the R28 under the railway bridge towards Kagiso last weekend.

MRS Public Relations Officer Dale Mac Rae reported that the accident happened on Sunday evening, November 24.

“Upon arrival, paramedics saw a man assaulting another person who had allegedly robbed people from one of the vehicles involved in the crash. The assailant fled the scene and tried to hide in the ambulance. Unfortunately, during the commotion, a paramedic was hit with a metal object while trying to escape the attack. The paramedic suffered injuries to his hand and was taken to hospital,” explained Mac Rae.

She emphasized that first responders already face significant challenges when responding to emergencies, and being attacked should never be one of them. Such incidents not only endanger the lives of emergency personnel, but also hinder their ability to assist in life-threatening situations.

“This behavior is unacceptable and is strongly condemned by the MRS and all emergency services. We urge anyone with information about this incident to contact the police immediately,” Mac Rae added.
