AG launches consumer protection campaign for the holidays

MID-MICHIGAN (WNEM) – As you prepare to do your holiday shopping, Attorney General Dana Nessel is launching its annual holiday consumer protection campaign to protect your information and your wallet.

The Attorney General’s Office said the protection begins on Black Friday, Nov. 29, and continues through the New Year. Consumer protection website the vacation scam page will focus on spreading awareness of any scams and how to be aware of the tactics scammers use.

“As we come together to celebrate the holidays, it’s important that consumers remain vigilant against bad actors who take advantage of holiday spending and generosity to access personal and financial information,” Nessel said. “I hope this holiday scam awareness campaign helps Michigan residents learn strategies to protect themselves from scammers and enjoy a safe holiday season.”

The attorney general said it is issuing a series of alerts on specific topics, which include:

  • Gift rings
  • Grandparent scams
  • Travel tips
  • Data Breaches
  • Health club memberships and travel.
