Trump cabinet picks targeted by violent threats, transition team says

President-elect Donald Trump’s picks for cabinet positions were subjected to death threats, bomb threats and beatings Tuesday night and early Wednesday, a spokesman for the Trump/Vance transition revealed.

“In response, law enforcement and other authorities acted quickly to ensure the safety of those who were targeted,” Trump/Vance transition spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said. “President Trump and the entire transition team are grateful for their swift action.”

Leavitt did not say who was targeted, but the office of Rep. Elise Stefanik, who has been tapped to be the next US ambassador to the United Nations, said the congresswoman was informed of a bomb threat at her home in New York.

“This morning, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, her husband and their three-year-old son were driving home in Saratoga County, Washington for Thanksgiving when they were informed of a bomb threat to their residence. New York State, county law enforcement and the US Capitol Police responded immediately with the highest level of professionalism. We are incredibly grateful for the extraordinary dedication of law enforcement officers who keep our communities safe 24/7,” the congressman’s office said in a statement.

In a statement to Scripps News, the FBI said it is aware of the threats and is investigating.

“We take all potential threats seriously and as always encourage members of the public to report anything they consider suspicious to law enforcement immediately,” a spokesman said.

Leavitt added that the incoming administration will not be intimidated by any threats.
