Habitual offender held for chain snatching

Indore: Pardeshipura police on Thursday arrested a 45-year-old man for snatching a gold chain from an elderly woman in Clerk Colony last month.
Additional DCP Amrendra Singh said the accused, Ajay Malviya, 45, a habitual criminal with a history of serious crimes including robbery, burglary and theft in Indore and Ujjain, has been arrested.
The accused entered the victim’s shop on the pretext of buying chocolates and fled after snatching her gold chain. The case has been registered and investigations have started. The Pardeshipura police tracked down the accused using extensive CCTV footage from the crime scene and nearby areas. While tracking the suspect, the investigators faced a challenge when he disappeared after Sayaji Gate, Dewas. However, police released detailed descriptions of the suspect and his red scooter through their network of informants.
The discovery came when the suspect was spotted near the ITI checkpoint. In an attempt to escape, Malviya was intercepted and injured during a chase. During interrogation, he confessed to the Clerk Colony murder and an additional theft on October 24 near RD Gardi College in Ujjain, where he stole jewelery and the same red scooter.
Ajay Malviya, originally from Gujar Bapcha village in Dewas, moved to Kulkarni Bhatta years ago. His criminal activities date back to 2002, including offenses like attempt to murder, burglary and assault, with over 36 cases registered against him in Indore and Ujjain. Despite being placed under surveillance in 2011, Malviya evaded law enforcement by moving frequently.
Police have recovered stolen items worth Rs 1.5 lakh from Malviya and are conducting further interrogation to find out his involvement in other crimes in Indore.
