Driver seriously injured in rollover crash south of Bates

BATES CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A 20-year-old driver was seriously injured in a rollover collision south of Bates on Thanksgiving afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol indicates that around 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 28, emergency crews were called to Route Z and Arey Rd., approximately 4 miles south of the town of Bates, with reports of a single-vehicle collision.

When first responders arrived, they said they found a 20-year-old Bates City man driving a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 northbound on the highway when, for an unknown reason, the truck veered off the left side of the road.

State troopers noted the driver overcorrected and the truck traveled back onto the roadway before swerving back onto the left side, hitting an embankment and overturning.

Emergency crews indicated the driver, who was wearing a seat belt at the time, was taken to Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The truck was totaled during the accident. No other information has been released.
