GREENWOOD, Ind. – A Greenwood man found hiding in West Virginia was convicted this week of sexually abusing a child.

David Bailey failed to appear at his trial earlier this year, but a jury still found him guilty of sexual misconduct with a minor last August.

Bailey missed the trial because he had fled to West Virginia before. Eventually the US Marshals found him and brought him back to Indiana for sentencing.

Johnson County District Attorney Lance Hamner sentenced him to 11 years in prison, with 9 years to be served at the Indiana Department of Corrections. The other 2 years will be probation. Bailey will also have to register as a sex offender and participate in a sex offender assessment and treatment, as well as mental health and drug treatment.

Greenwood police began investigating Bailey in August 2022 after receiving reports that Bailey sexually abused a child between 2019 and 2021.
